Do I really need 6 days? Can I do this in 3?

You can see the desert in 3 days, but 6 days is much more relaxed. In 6 days, you aren't spending 8 hours a day in the car. You have time to stop for photos, drink tea with locals, and actually enjoy the swimming pools at the hotels.

Can we change the itinerary to go to Fes instead of returning to Marrakech?

Yes, absolutely. This itinerary can easily be modified into a Marrakech to Fes One-Way trip (via Merzouga and the Middle Atlas Mountains) instead of returning via the South.

Day 01 :

Marrakech – High Atlas – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley

08:00 AM: Depart Marrakech and cross the Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2,260m). Enjoy photo stops of panoramic mountain views.
11:00 AM: Visit the famous Telouet Kasbah (optional, accessible via an unpaved scenic road) or continue directly to Ait Ben Haddou.
01:00 PM: Lunch at Ait Ben Haddou.
03:00 PM: Guided tour of the Ait Ben Haddou Ksar (UNESCO World Heritage site), used as a filming location for Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
05:00 PM: Drive through the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs" and the Skoura Palm Grove.
07:00 PM: Arrive in the Dades Valley. Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 02 :

Dades Valley – Todra Gorges – Merzouga Desert

08:30 AM: Visit the Dades Gorge and walk the "Monkey Fingers" rock formations.
10:00 AM: Drive to Todra Gorge, a massive canyon popular with rock climbers. Walk along the river floor and watch climbers scale the 300m high walls.
01:00 PM: Lunch in the town of Tinghir.
03:00 PM: Drive to Merzouga, passing the town of Erfoud (known for fossils).
05:00 PM: Arrive at the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. Mount your camels for a trek into the desert.
Overnight: Enjoy dinner, music, and sleep in a Luxury Desert Camp in the middle of the dunes.

Day 03 :

Merzouga – Sahara Deep Dive

07:00 AM: Wake up for sunrise. Return to the hotel for breakfast and a shower.
10:00 AM:Full Day Exploration:
- Visit Khamlia Village, a village of Gnawa musicians, to listen to spiritual music and share tea.
- Visit a Nomad Family living in tents to learn about their way of life.
- Visit Lake Merzouga (Dayet Srji), a seasonal salt lake that attracts flamingos.
- Visit a Fossil workshop in Erfoud.
04:00 PM: Optional 4x4 off-road excursion or free time to relax at the hotel pool.
Overnight: Hotel in Merzouga (watching the sunset over the dunes from the terrace).

Day 04 :

Merzouga – Rissani – Nkob – Valley of Roses

09:00 AM: Depart Merzouga. Stop in Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalt, to visit a traditional souk (market days are Mon, Tue, Thu).
11:00 AM: Drive off-road through the rocky Saghro Mountains and the "Road of a Thousand Kasbahs." This is one of Morocco's most scenic and less traveled drives.
01:30 PM: Lunch in Nkob, a small village famous for its many Kasbahs.
03:30 PM: Drive through the Valley of Roses (Boumalne Dades).
05:30 PM: Arrive in Boumalne Dades or Skoura. Dinner and overnight in a guesthouse.

Day 05 :

Skoura – Ouarzazate – High Atlas

09:00 AM: Visit the Skoura Kasbah (Amridil), a beautiful example of earth architecture surrounded by palm trees.

11:00 AM: Arrive in Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Africa." Visit the Kasbah Taourirt.

01:00 PM: Lunch in Ouarzazate.

02:30 PM: Drive back towards the High Atlas Mountains, passing the scenic Berber villages of the Tizi n'Tichka pass.

06:00 PM: Arrive in a village near the pass or stay in Ouarzazate (depending on preference). Standard tour usually stops here, but for a 6-day loop, you might sleep in the mountains or just arrive back early on Day 6.

Alternative: Drive back to Marrakech on Day 5 evening for a free day in Marrakech on Day 6? Or split the return?

Day 06 :

Return to Marrakech or Guided Tour

Option A (Relaxed Return): Slow breakfast, drive back to Marrakech arriving by lunchtime. Afternoon free to explore the city/Souks.
Option B (If staying in mountains): Visit the Argan Women's Cooperative and arrive in Marrakech by 11:00 AM.
