Can we visit the desert camp on Day 2 instead of Day 1?

This tour is structured to arrive in the desert on Day 1 to ensure you catch the sunset. Since Fes is north of the mountains, it takes a full day of driving to get there. To stay in the desert on Day 2, you would need to stop halfway (e.g., in Midelt) on Day 1, but this often makes Day 2 too rushed.

Is Day 1 too much driving?

It is a long driving day (approx. 7–8 hours total), but the route is scenic and includes several stops to break it up (Ifrane, Monkeys, Midelt, Ziz Valley). Most travelers find it comfortable.

Are the showers in the desert camp hot?

Yes, in "Luxury" camps, showers are typically ensuite and hot. In "Standard" camps, showers may be communal and solar-powered, so hot water depends on the time of day.

Day 01 :

Fes – Middle Atlas – Ziz Valley – Merzouga Desert

10:15 AM: Visit the Cedar Forest of Azrou. Look for the wild Barbary Macaques (monkeys) in the trees.
01:00 PM: Lunch in the town of Midelt, situated between the Middle and High Atlas mountains.
02:30 PM: Cross the Tizi n'Haylaj pass and descend into the Ziz Valley. Stop for panoramic photos of the massive palm groves.
05:30 PM: Arrive in Merzouga (Erg Chebbi dunes). Meet your camel guide.
06:00 PM: 1-Hour Camel Trek: Mount your camels to watch the sunset over the dunes.
07:00 PM: Arrive at the Desert Camp. Enjoy traditional dinner, Berber drums, and sleep under the stars or in a luxury tent.

Day 02 :

Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley

07:30 AM: Breakfast and camel ride back to the village.
09:00 AM: Drive to Rissani, the ancient capital of Tafilalt, and the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty. Visit a local souk if it is market day.
11:00 AM: Drive towards the Todra Gorge via the palm groves of Tinejdad.
01:00 PM: Lunch at the entrance of the Todra Gorge.
02:30 PM: Walk along the Todra Gorge canyon floor. The cliffs here rise 300m vertically, and you can see rock climbers.
04:30 PM: Drive along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the Dades Valley.
05:30 PM: Walk to the "Monkey Fingers" rock formations in the Dades gorge.
Overnight: Hotel/Riad in Dades or Boumalne.

Day 03 :

Dades – Rose Valley – Skoura – Ouarzazate

08:30 AM: Breakfast.
09:30 AM: Drive through the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and the Valley of Roses. Stop at Kalaat M'Gouna, famous for rose water production.
11:00 AM: Visit the Skoura Oasis and the Kasbah Amridil (optional), a beautifully preserved Kasbah surrounded by palm trees.
01:00 PM: Lunch in Ouarzazate.
03:00 PM: Visit the Kasbah Taourirt in Ouarzazate, a historic fortress and former home of the Pasha of Marrakech.
